Despite a difficult year for everyone, manufacturers continue to surprise us with new products on the gadget market
Best Big Screen Phones of 2023

Recently, a branch of smartphones called “ phablets ” has been strengthening its position in the mobile device market. The name is a word borrowed from the English language  phablet , which in turn came from the addition of two words:  phone  (telephone) and  tablet  (tablet). Indeed, they are larger than standard smartphones, but slightly smaller than tablets. Phablets are an intermediate link between these two types of mobile devices. Komsomolskaya Pravda has compiled its list of the best phablets or phones with a large screen with a diagonal of 6.5 inches or more.

Editor’s Choice

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max 256GB

The new model from Apple is rightly at the top of our list. The new firmware has a larger display compared to the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max with the same external dimensions. This means that the screen takes up a little more area on the body – the phone began to look more organic. Despite the high price of the device, its screen does not support a refresh rate of 120 Hz, which is a little surprising.

This model uses the new and optimized Apple A14 Bionic processor, which performs well in photo post-processing. In theory, this processor supports 5G communication, but  it is unknown when it will appear in Russia  .

Main characteristics

Screen Amoled 6.7 inches (2778×1284)
CPU A14 Bionic
RAM 6 GB
Cameras 12MP main lens, 12MP telephoto, 12MP ultra-wide lens, 12MP front
Battery capacity 3687 mAh

Top 9 rating according to KP

1. OnePlus 8T 12/256GB

The developers clearly focused on the technical component of the phone, but did not forget about the design. Buyers will be able to choose their phone from 6 body color options. The smartphone fits comfortably in the hand due to its thin and slightly beveled edges.

The OnePlus 8T is powered by a Snapdragon processor, which was also installed in the previous model. Despite this, its power is enough for both demanding games and smooth operation of the screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The main drawback of the OnePlus 8T is now called the camera, but the developers claim that the problem is in the software, which they will soon improve.

A special pride of OnePlus engineers is the 8T fast charging system. The 4500 mAh battery will be charged 100% in a little more than half an hour.

3. XiaomiPoco X3 NFC 6/128GB

An excellent option for a combination of price and quality. For about 20 thousand rubles you will get a high-quality device with good cameras for the price, NFC, a bright design and adequate technical characteristics.

So, it has a high-quality FullHD screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, 6 gigabytes of RAM and an NFC module for contactless payment (you can link a bank card and pay for purchases directly from the phablet). The developers have retained the ability to connect wired headphones without a special adapter.

Perhaps the only thing that can confuse the XiaomiPoco X3 NFC is the plastic case. However, it provides minimal IP53 water and dust protection to the phone.

Main characteristics

Screen IPS LCD 6.67 inches (2400×1080)
CPU Snapdragon 732G
RAM 6 GB
Cameras 64MP main lens, 13MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro lens, 2MP depth sensor, 20MP front

Coupled with a huge battery, external cooling system and special software, the smartphone easily outperforms all “non-gaming” competitors. The calm design of the smartphone does not reveal it as a gaming monster – this will please those who do not want to catch surprised glances on themselves in the subway.

6. HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro

In the middle of our selection of the best phones with a large screen is a wonderful camera phone from HUAWEI. The main advantage of this model is the combination of excellent optics from LEICA and its own photo processing technologies. The pictures come out simply excellent – with the desired color rendition, detailed and colorful.

The entire front part of the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro is occupied by a 6.76-inch diagonal AMOLED display. Due to the rounded side edges, the borders of the screen are not visible.

This phablet has a fairly capacious battery – 4400 mAh with fast charging function. The processor here is of its own production, HuaweiKirin 9000, powerful and adapted for “native” hardware.

The main disadvantage of the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro is the lack of standard services from Google. All applications will have to be installed from the manufacturer’s proprietary market or come up with other ways to bypass restrictions. But it is possible that some users, on the contrary, will be happy about it.

Main characteristics

Screen AMOLED 6.76 inches (2772×1344)
CPU Huawei Kirin 9000
RAM 8 GB
Cameras 50MP main lens, 20MP ultra-wide lens, 12MP telephoto lens. 13MP front.

7. ASUS Zenfone 7 ZS670KS 8/128GB

This model from Asus will definitely satisfy all the desires of even the most fastidious user. It has a powerful Snapdragon 865 processor, a high-quality screen and 8 GB of RAM. But the main feature of this model was the unusual camera module. In fact, Zenfone 7 does not have a full-fledged selfie camera, but it is excellently replaced by the main optics, which extends from the top of the smartphone and rotates 180 degrees. Selfie lovers will definitely appreciate the quality of the pictures. The developers claim that the camera mechanism will withstand up to 200 thousand turns.

The disadvantage of the model is the lack of moisture protection, which can be found even in phones that cost several times less.

Main characteristics

Screen AMOLED 6.67 inches (2400×1080)
CPU Snapdragon 865
RAM 8 GB
Cameras 64MP main lens, 12MP ultra-wide lens, 8MP telephoto lens

8. Xiaomi Mi 10T PRO 8/128GB

XiaomiMi 10T bears the title of affordable flagship from Xiaomi. When developing such devices, it is assumed that they have all the features of expensive models, but for relatively little money.

The top part of the phone is occupied by a fairly large block of cameras. It contains the main pride of Chinese developers – a module with a record 108 megapixels. The optics protrude noticeably from the body, which may not be to the liking of those who carry the phone without a case.

The smooth operation of the Xiaomi Mi 10T PRO screen can only be envied. The display with a refresh rate of 144 Hz is perfectly complemented by the powerful Snapdragon 865 processor and 8 GB of RAM.

Main characteristics

9. Motorola G9 Plus

A “workhorse” for those who don’t need a powerful smartphone. From the very beginning, Motorola engineers did not want to surprise everyone with the device’s performance, so they created it as convenient as possible for average use.

There is a capacious 5000 mAh battery; with the economical Snapdragon 730G processor, the device will last up to two days on a single charge. The Motorola G9 Plus comes with fast charging.

The budget direction of the device is determined by the case materials (plastic) and the small amount of RAM – 4 GB.

CPU Snapdragon 730G
RAM 4 GB
Cameras 64MP main lens, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro lens, 2MP depth sensor. 16MP front

How to choose a phone with a big screen

Nowadays it’s already difficult to surprise a buyer with a phone of 6 inches or more – phablets have already become the “gold standard” in the world of smartphones. Just five years ago, phones with such a screen diagonal were rather an exception to the general rule, but after the massive transition of manufacturers to a screen aspect ratio of 16:9 or 18:9, “shovels” began to fit perfectly even in fragile female hands. Nowadays it’s quite difficult to find a decent phone with a screen diagonal of less than 6 inches, but there are a number of factors that should always be taken into account when purchasing. Cell phone salon consultant Alexey Kondorov will help us understand this issue  .

Display

The cell phone screen is the part you will interact with the most. However, the displays will not differ in size alone; it is important here

  • Screen resolution (must be at least FullHD for high-quality images)
  • refresh rate (from 60 to 120 Hz, whatever is higher for gaming phone models) – so that the image “moves” smoothly)
  • matrix type (OLED – rich black color, but fades over time, IPS – the best option for picky users and Retina – optimized for Apple devices).

Specifications

A large and high-quality phablet screen requires good “stuffing”. The processor and RAM determine how smoothly the phone will operate and how many applications you can run simultaneously. No one installs frankly unsuccessful processors in modern phones, and the RAM in a 2023 device should already be at least 6-8 gigabytes. Some phones can accommodate memory cards, this will allow you to save a little when choosing a specific model without overpaying for a built-in high-capacity storage device.

Working hours

Battery capacity is the parameter that is responsible for the autonomy of the device. A good Android device should have a battery of at least 4000 mAh – this should be enough for a day of “normal” use without focusing on games or watching online videos. For Apple devices, the system is designed in such a way that a 3000 mAh battery is enough for a day.

Don’t forget that to increase your phone’s battery life, you can buy a small external battery, which will certainly last for at least two full charge cycles. In modern realities, there is no need to chase a huge battery in the phone itself.

Camera

Here, each manufacturer dodges in its own way. Gone are the days when buyers were attracted by the number of megapixels. Now what is much more important is how the phone itself processes the received frame – all phones have their own post-processing system for the received images. Now these systems operate at the same level.

In addition to regular lenses, phones are equipped with wide-angle and/or telephoto lenses. It’s difficult to call their absence critical; rather, it’s a nice bonus to the phone’s main camera.

Housing materials

Premium models are pleasant to hold in your hands – they are assembled from glass or metal. Simpler smartphones are made of durable plastic. Be that as it may, most users carry cell phones in cases, so it is likely that because of it you will not feel the pleasant coolness of aluminum or glass parts at all.

Important little things

Manufacturers can build an endless number of small, but at the same time convenient functions into their smartphones. For example, the possibility of contactless payment via NFC or wireless charging. Of course, all this increases the retail price of the phone.

The smartphone market is constantly changing, sometimes in unexpected ways. So, Android manufacturers have picked up on Apple’s fashion and began to abandon the jack-3.5 “music” connector – music can now only be listened to via Bluetooth, and some companies have completely stopped putting a charging block in the box with the device.
